March Madness

WOW! March starts next week!

Just a reminder that the Writing STAAR Test is Tuesday March 29th!

It would be a good idea to review all expository writing with your child at home. Expository writing is where they are explaining something. We like to organize it in a pillar graphic organizer to help make the writing flow and make more sense :)

Some sample prompts you could practice with your child could be as follows:
1. Explain a school rule would you change and why.
2. Explain an animal you would choose a class pet.
3. Explain a person who has impacted your life and why they are important to you.
4. Explain your favorite toy and why it is your favorite.

It's the Middle of February

I know I always say this, but TIME IS FLYING!

We are learning all about weather in science- weather symbols and all different types. Watch the weather channel and see what your child can tell you about the weather!

In math, we are continuing with learning fractions, but applying it to word problems. This is a very important skill because the students will need to be able to interpret situations and figure out which operations to use in everyday life!

For reading, the students should have a grasp on what the difference between author's perspective and author's purpose are. These two things get confused often, but there is a difference.

Writing is all about expository because it is such an important skill to be successful in high school and college or any research. Not to mention STAAR Writing is right around the corner!

So Much Love

I can't even believe the love and kindness I saw this week.

Not only was it my birthday week and I was completely spoiled, but the students enjoyed giving others gifts at the Friendship Party SO much. Seeing the kindness and generosity that the students display to each other reinforces all the hard work and effort I put into this job. I want each and every one of the students to know that I care about them so much and would do anything for them. I hope if they learn absolutely anything from me (and it should be a lot lol) it's that someone in the world cares about them very deeply and wants the very best for them to be successful in their lives, whatever path they choose.

One sappy post every once in awhile doesn't hurt :)

February- What a Lovely Month!

February is here and it is one of my favorite months!

Not only is it a month to show everyone you care about that you care, but it is also my birthday month!

Reminder that our Friendship Party is Friday February 12th.

In Math we are learning more and more about fractions. Your child should be able to simplify, add, subtract, decompose, and do all sorts of fun things with them!

In Science, we have been talking about weather, erosion, and deposition. We related this to soil and even created our own layers of soil.

It was a very exciting week in writing- we learned how to write a personal narrative. We are loving writing those!

In Reading, we talked about how to find the meaning of unknown vocabulary words and reviewed author's purpose (PIEE). We can never get enough!
