IMPORTANT

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE SCHEDULED FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 10TH AND TUESDAY OCTOBER 11TH.
I emailed out an invite to sign up for times through Sign Up Genius
I also sent home a paper that has available times left to pick three that work for you and return it as soon as possible. I will then inform you what time your conference will be.

Aside from that, next week we will be getting into multiplication in math!

In science, we are continuing with electrical energy and figuring out how to build a circuit! It is one of my favorite things we do in science in fourth grade!

One more thing that is a very awesome thing Coach O'Brian has been spearheading the chance for us to win some money for playground equipment and other things for PE. You have to go to this website and enter in some info. Once you do it once, you can vote for Christie every day by just entering your email! It is so awesome and we really appreciate your help on that!

Have a great weekend, I look forward to meeting with you all very soon :)

This Week and Next Week

Happy Friday, everyone! :)

There a few reminders that I would like noted:
Progress Reports went out today, so make sure those are signed and returned to your teacher as soon as possible.

Conferences are coming up on October 10th! I will be sending out information about sign up times NEXT WEEK! Be on the lookout for those.

We are going to the Hollifield Outdoor Learning Center on October 18th. Look for permission slips and parent volunteer forms coming home very soon.

Grades will be sent home in the last tab of the students' binders labelled "Home" and if it is not in that tab, please do not remove it from the binder. Papers in this tab are all yours to keep, unless a signature is needed. :)

Addition, subtraction, and energy!
That is what our week has been full of! The students are making so much growth and I can see it in front of my eyes! I am so proud of how hard they are working.
One thing that can be reinforced at home is subtracting, whole numbers and decimals. They can never get enough practice on that!
Here are some good ways to practice math skills:

In science we are learning all about energy. We are using the acronym MELTS to remember the different types of energy we are focusing on:
Mechanical
Electrical
Light
Thermal/Heat
Sound

Have a great weekend!

Picture Day and Reminder

PICTURE DAY IS MONDAY! Come with your bright, shining, best dressed selves :)

Next week in math we are starting adding and subtracting whole numbers and decimals! The biggest thing they need to remember is to always always always line up their place values.

In science we will be continuing to work on energy. We will be focusing a lot on the MELTS types of energy. Ask your student to tell you what each letter in MELTS stands for ;)

REMEMBER: The agendas need to be signed at least once a week. I check them on Thursdays and your child needs to be writing their learning targets every day. These strategies are so awesome as they are part of AVID and help us all stay on the same page.

September is in Full Swing!

In math, we have been learning all about place value! The students have done such a great job being able to differentiate between place value, value, and digit. We have discussed place value relationships (10x and 1/10), decimal place value, written numbers in different forms (standard, word, and expanded), and so much more! All of this will culminate to our Unit Assessment that will be on Friday September 16th!

Science has been full of lab safety, thinking like a scientist, CER (claims, evidence, reasoning), and making our science notebooks perfect!

Remember: the AVID agendas must be signed by Thursday and your child must have written their learning targets. I will check it on Thursday mornings.

I have had a couple questions about B.Y.O.D. In order for you child to bring a device, I have to have the signed permission slip that allows them to bring it. We have yet to start B.Y.O.D. as we are just getting routines and procedures down. Look for a note coming home for when it is time to start bringing your device.

The year is off to such an amazing start!
